The shortest wavelength available in a laser pointer, the Electra produces laser light very close to the ultraviolet part of the visible spectrum. The unique properties of this laser include the ability to excite fluorescent and phosphorescent materials in a similar way as a black light would, causing these materials to glow brightly. The highly focused beam allows a small area of a glow-in-the-dark material to be ‘charged’ leaving a glowing trail as the beam passes over the material effectively allowing the user to draw glowing patterns on these materials.
